The Roland Adewumi Classic tournament to be held on June 15 will see over 180 golfers, including professionals and amateurs, compete for a cash prize of N35 million and other additional rewards.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr Akabom Enebon, said this while speaking to reporters in Abuja on Monday.

He said the tournament, which will be hosted by IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, will be a battleground for some of the greatest talent in the world of golf.

Enebon said every effort will be made to ensure that the event is worthy of the honorable man’s achievements, adding that the tournament will be more than just a competition.

According to him, it is a tribute to Adewumi, a man who had a huge impact on Nigerian sports.

He said Mr. Adewumi is known for his commitment to developing talent and promoting the game of golf, adding that his contributions have left an indelible mark on the world of golf.

Mr. Enebon emphasized the meticulous preparations underway to ensure a perfect event.

“This tournament is a tribute to Roland Adewumi, who had a pivotal impact on the development of golf in Nigeria.

“We have ensured that all preparations are in place to ensure a smooth and competitive event,” he said.

He said the tournament will feature approximately 80 professional golfers and 100 amateur golfers who will compete in a stroke-play format on the club’s famous 18-hole course.

He said the tournament was action-packed and participants were keen to showcase their skills and compete for top honors.

“The Adewumi Classic Tournament not only brings big prizes but also great prestige. With over 35 million naira in prizes at stake, the stakes are high and the competition is expected to be fierce.

“In addition to cash rewards, we have a number of consolation prizes to ensure that many participants go home recognizing their efforts.

“Interest in this event is very high and top golfers from all over the country are preparing to participate,” he said.

He said the high level of interest from participants underscored the importance of the tournament on the Nigerian golf calendar and highlighted the respect and admiration held for Adewumi within the golf community.
