Knoxville police investigating 2 robberies on Merchant Drive, KPD says

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Police Department is investigating two robberies on Merchant Drive that it says could be connected.

According to KPD Communication Manager Scott Erland, officers responded to the Subway at 314 Merchant Drive around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22. While there, an employee reportedly told officers that a man had entered the store, approached the register and pulled out a sign demanding money and implying he had a weapon.

After the first robbery, officers said they canvased the area but were unable to find him.

Six days later, on Thursday, officers responded to another robbery at the Casey’s gas station at 410 Merchant Drive, Erland said. The clerk reportedly told officers that a man had entered, shown a knife and demanded money.

“After receiving money from the register, the suspect was chased from the store by another patron,” KPD said.

KPD described the man as white and about six-feet tall with blue eyes. Those with information are being asked to call East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165.
