Alhaji Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, the promoter of the Dangote refinery, has promised to stop importing petrol in June when Nigeria begins production.

Mr Dangote, who disclosed this on Friday at the Africa CEO Forum annual summit in Kigali, Rwanda, said the refinery would not only cater to the domestic petrol needs of Nigeria but also other West African countries.

He noted that the second phase of the refinery is scheduled to start in 2025.

“At the moment, Nigeria has no reason to import anything other than petrol. Within the next four to five weeks, in June, Nigeria should not be importing anything like petrol, not even a liter,” he said. Told.

“We have enough gasoline to supply at least all of West Africa. We have enough diesel to supply West and Central Africa.”

Dangote said the refinery has enough aviation fuel to meet the continent’s demand as well as export to Brazil and Mexico.

“We plan to produce diesel and gasoline next month,” he added.

He said: “Today, our (Dangote Refinery) polypropylene and polyethylene will meet all of Africa’s needs. And we are doing something similar with base oils, engine oils.

“We are developing linear benzyl, which is the raw material for LLB, a detergent ingredient. We have a population of 1.4 billion, but no one in Africa produces it.”

He added: “As I said earlier, if we give the Dangote refinery three years, up to four years, Africa will, I repeat, no longer import fertilizers from anywhere.

“We will make Africa self-sufficient in potassium and phosphates. Even if we don’t have enough, Morocco has a lot. But we are also exploring opportunities.”

“Our country’s urea production currently stands at 3 million tons and will reach 6 million tons in the next 20 months, which is equivalent to Egypt’s entire production capacity.”

Dangote said the refinery has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
