Palmer Candy expands recall due to salmonella risk

Palmer Candy Co. has expanded its recall of coated dessert and snack products to include expiration dates. The reason for the recall is the possibility of Salmonella contamination.

The recalled candy products are distributed nationwide by Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target and Dollar General and are in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

This product is offered in various retail packaging such as bags, pouches, and tubs.

So far, no illnesses related to this problem have been reported.

Palmer Candy was notified by a supplier of liquid coatings of possible Salmonella contamination from potentially contaminated raw materials from one of their suppliers.

Production of the product has been halted while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the cause of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased white-coated confectionery products manufactured by Palmer Candy Company are encouraged to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
