An edu-firm, NABU has partnered with computer giants HP in a literacy enhancing project tagged “Empowering Literacy: NABU/HP Mision to Reach 25 million Children by 2030” 

Unveiling the partnership in a Lab Grand opening in Lagos weekend, the organisation emphasised needs to empower children who are tagged the great leaders of tomorrow. 

Speaking, Cuthbert Ayodeji Onikute, the global director of operations NABU, said the firm seek to reach and impact school children in Africa with a quality multilingual book formats that will enhance their learning processes.

“NABU is a tech enabled publisher of multilingual books, providing  children with high quality,  culturally relevant bilingual stories. Our framework is based on best practices to foster children’s reading and language development and ensuring equitable access to educational resources.

“We also train local creators to publish books in languages where they do not exist,  ensuring every child has free access to the books they need to learn to read. Our mission is to ensure every child can read and learn through storytelling and technology.

He also explained NABU contents and published books in different Nigerian languages.

“NABU provides its contents through the navy mobile app available on Android and IOS, the NABU Web Reader, and printed books distributed through partnership with schools,  community centres, and libraries. We currently offer books in three major Nigeria languages that include 40 Igbo/English books, 30 Hausa/English  books and 30 Yoruba/English books,” he said.

Emmanuel Asika, country head and director, HP noted that on the global scene the firm is in partnership with HP since 2021. “HP has supported NABU vision globally. Together,  we have launched Creative Labs in Rwanda, the Philippines and Nigeria  and have also rolled out literacy offerings in Haiti,  Rwanda,  Kenya,  Romania  and the Philippines.  Now we are embarking on a 6-year plan across Africa aiming to reach 25 million  children by 2030.”

Onikute also disclosed that over 7.5 million children have been reached worldwide with audience engagement of about 2500 including teachers trained. The firm have also served 10 countries market-wise with 1000 titled books published in 21 languages plus 55000 distributed books with 2 million downloads.

“Nabu culturally relevant content stories reflect the cultural contexts of children,  making learning more relatable. It provides multiple formats to suit different needs, easy to navigate interface designed for children and educators alike. All platforms are free, ensuring every child can read and learn with comprehensive coverage from mobile apps to web readers and printed books,” he concludes.
