BEIJING (AP) — An explosion at an apartment building in northeastern China on Thursday killed one person and injured three, state media reported.
Videos posted on social media showed parts of a five-story apartment building in Harbin were damaged and one apartment’s balcony was completely blown away. Authorities told local media that the explosion was likely caused by a natural gas tank that had been left powered on.
One woman died from her injuries, while three others were taken to hospital, state media ZimNews reported.
Authorities said the family living in the apartment had not properly used a liquefied petroleum gas tank, which is commonly used in Chinese homes to provide gas for cooking.
Video footage on the internet showed at least one person being carried into an ambulance by paramedics and roads covered in debris.
The explosion occurred at about 7 a.m. in Harbin, the capital of northeastern China’s Heilongjiang province.
