Nairobi – Businesswoman Agnes Kagure has sympathised with residents of Nairobi county affected by fire tragedies.
In the early hours of Tuesday, August 6, a devastating fire razed down houses and churches near Muhindi Mweusi Supermarkt in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.
The huge fire erupted around 1am, and despite the efforts of local residents to contain the blaze, the fire consumed an extensive area.
The incident comes a few days after another fire burnt down the popular Toi Market in Kibra, leaving business people counting huge losses.
In her message, Kagure said the fire incidents were made worse by the sluggish response by the Nairobi County emergency and disaster team.
Kagure said Nairobi county residents deserve better from those assigned critical duties like disaster management.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Toi, Kibra and Muindi Mweusi in Embakasi following unfortunate fire tragedies that have been made worse by sluggish response by emergency and disaster teams. Poleni sana to all those affected. We can certainly do better as Nairobi,” Kagure said.
