Joey Faladira, 40, of Lindhaven in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, couldn’t find a government primary school in his area when he wanted to enrol his daughter in Grade R four years ago.
She ended up enrolling her daughter in a private school.
“We didn’t send our children to private school because we wanted to – we had no choice. There are only two public primary schools in our area that teach English, the rest are Afrikaans.”
