Ambulance case: Prosecutors have no intention of conducting a fair prosecution – Srem Say

Private lawyer, Justice Slem Say, has expressed concern over Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s intention to deliver a fair prosecution in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial.

This comes after the Attorney General’s office and the Ministry of Justice revealed that they had received strong pressure from various individuals to halt the ambulance purchase trial.

This was followed by the release of details of the plea agreement for the third defendant.

The third defendant, Richard Jakpa, had argued in court that Dame had approached him on a number of occasions seeking his assistance in implicating the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

The attorney general said in a statement that the third defendant had requested a plea bargain through a series of letters but that it was not accepted.

In an interview The big problem upon Read TV On Saturday, Slem Say strongly disagreed with the attorney general’s argument that the plea deal meant an admission of guilt.

He said the Attorney General’s actions showed he had no intention of delivering a fair prosecution.

“On the letterhead of the Attorney General, who understands the nature of plea bargaining and is well aware that plea bargain applications are not admissions of guilt and are in fact without prejudice, the entire Attorney General’s office was in fact attempting to influence not the defendants but the defendants themselves, and evidence of this alleged influence was the plea bargain application,” the suit states.

“And that was not the end of it, as soon as the press statement was released, we saw copies of plea bargain applications between the defendants’ lawyers and the Attorney General floating around in the media.

“Whoever released these documents, you can see that they have the Attorney General’s stamp on them, it shows that the Attorney General has no intention of actually conducting a fair prosecution… this is an unfair practice,” he noted.
