South Africans will get to access most national parks for free, for one week in September, including the Kruger National Park.

National Parks Week will kick off from 9 September and run to 13 September. It will be extended to the weekend of 14 and 15 September at selected national parks.

“During this period, free access is granted to most of the 21 national parks under the management of South African National Parks,” SanParks said in a statement.

The free access does not include accommodation facilities and other tourist activities. The event has seen an influx of day visitors at parks since it was first rolled out in 2006.

It aims to encourage national pride in the country’s natural, cultural and historical heritage that is protected in these parks.
