2024 Tour Championship: Round 2 Weather Reports at East Lake Golf Club Explored

The Round 1 of the 2024 TOUR Championship went by without a hitch. Seems like nothing short of good news for the PGA Tour which experienced nightmares in the form of unfavorable weather throughout the year. But now, with the second round just hours away from teeing off, there will be a growing worry in the minds of fans. Will the second round fall prey to bad weather or will it experience the same fate as Thursday’s play did?

As per the weather forecast predicted by Accuweather, East Lake Golf Club on August 30, Saturday, will witness hazy sunshine as 11:16 a.m. approaches. That is when the first pair of athletes among the field of 30, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Billy Horschel, will be teeing off from the 1st tee.

The rest of the day will continue to experience the same conditions with the temperature varying between 27 degrees and 32 degrees, that is until 2 p.m. when the sky will be filled with clouds. Although the temperature will just differ by a 1-degree difference, the sun will be hidden by the clouds until 7 p.m. after which the report predicts thunderstorms.

The forecast, meanwhile, projects a 7% chance of rain in the morning at 11 a.m. at the TOUR Championship. However, it gradually increases to reach 11% by 2 p.m. when the sky gets filled with clouds and jumps to a whopping 43% by 5 p.m. It then jumps straight to predict a 51% chance of rainfall by 7 p.m. when the thunderstorm is forecasted to hit.

There is a high chance for the day’s play at the TOUR Championship to be affected if the players find themselves delayed by any sort of slow play or hindrance. However, if the golfers, especially Scottie Scheffler, manage to work around the winds that are blowing from South to Southeast at a speed of 7 km/hr, then the athlete might top the scoreboard once again after Friday’s play.

The 28-year-old started off the tournament at 10-under owing to his position on the season-long FedEx Cup standings. He was able to add to the jumpstart and cement his position on the top of the leaderboard with a 6-under 65, coming off from 7 birdies and a bogey at East Lake Golf Club. He is seven strokes ahead of the golfers at T2, including fellow Americans Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.

The pro had pointed out how people are bound to get little aches and pains but they “didn’t play all year to just get tired at East Lake and kind of just throw in the towel.” But will he be able to hold out until the end?
