The Google Nest Doorbell (2nd gen) comes in two versions: battery-powered and wired. I use the battery version, which is easier to install, but the wired version can be connected to an existing doorbell and has the biggest discount.

This doorbell comes with all the usual video doorbell features, like motion detection, two-way audio, night vision, and live view from the app, but it stands out with a few other features that I like more than any other smart doorbell I’ve tested.

The Nest Doorbell’s design is particularly sturdy and compact, so you don’t have to worry much about damage from people or the weather. Google’s AI can also quickly ignore cars while identifying people and packages (even if the package suddenly disappears). In my experience, this is reliably accurate and frequently useful. Most video doorbells do this, but tend to lock the recognition feature into a subscription; the Nest Doorbell, on the other hand, offers it for free and only charges for the ability to recognize familiar faces.

That’s not all the Nest Doorbell offers for free: it also offers three hours of automatic cloud video storage, a feature that’s usually only available with a subscription.
