A bouncing baby, er, slime

  • Boing Boing Animals is a new Tamagotchi-like game out now on iOS
  • Hatch slime eggs and grow unique pets, feeding and caring for them
  • Just don’t do it at the expense of any real life pets

If there’s anything that can tie multiple generations of kids together from the late 90s into the late 2000s, it’s Tamagotchis. Who hasn’t experienced having, and subsequently neglecting, one of these adorable digital pets? But if you’re still haunted by leaving them to starve, don’t worry, because you can redeem yourself with a new Tamagotchi-like mobile game that’s just hit stores, Boing Boing Animals!

Available now on iOS, Boing Boing Animals does as you might expect. You hatch Slime Eggs, growing a variety of unique animals which you then feed and care for. There are over 70 different types of animals that you can discover as they grow while customising your UI with stickers and various backgrounds.

Aimed at players looking for an offline experience, Boing Boing Animals promises a fair number of features for a game of its size. You can expect to find yourself spending an inordinate time caring for these collections of pixels, though hopefully not at the expense of any real-life pets.

Bleep, boop

While Boing Boing Animals does have some oddities (boasting about cleaning your pet’s “turds” for example) it seems to be a fairly straightforward adaptation of the digital pet phenomenon to mobile. If you’re looking for a game that’s not quite as complex as something like Pokemon Go, but still with plenty of opportunities to foster your own digital pet, then maybe Boing Boing Animals is the choice for you.

And if it’s not, well, why not take a look at some of the games on our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) to find some that might be instead?

But if that’s still not your thing, maybe you’re more of a budget-conscious gamer. In which case there’s always our other list of the top 25 free-to-play games on iOS and Android!
