Repairs are underway on the damaged undersea cables that caused internet outages in East and South Africa earlier this month, less than two weeks after the incident occurred, with repairs to one cable completed and another expected to be finished by the first week of June.

On May 12, two undersea cables running along the east coast of the African continent were simultaneously damaged, causing minor connectivity issues in South Africa.A host of East African countries.

The outages on EASSy and Seacom cables caused a surge in outage reports on network outage reporting site Downdetector, with Netflix, DStv, Telkom, Vumatel and several other service providers apparently affected.
