Inzaghi ‘not worried’ about Lautaro future ahead of meeting with Inter’s new owners

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi says he is “not worried” about the future of captain Lautaro Martinez, as the player is yet to sign a new contract at San Siro.

The Argentina international, who is contracted until 2026, was Serie A’s top scorer with 24 goals as the Nerazzurri won their 20th Scudetto, 19 points ahead of second-placed AC Milan.

Inter are now under new ownership, with American firm Oaktree completing the purchase of the club from Suning last week.

Lautaro’s future will likely be high on Inzaghi’s agenda when he meets with the new owners this week, with the midfielder’s wage demands reportedly delaying negotiations but the manager is confident the situation will be resolved.

“I’m not worried because I know the club,” he said. “There has been a change of ownership but the directors have maintained continuity and will continue to do so.”

Inter ended a memorable season with a 2-2 draw with Verona on Sunday, earning a point thanks to a brace from Marko Arnautovic, and manager Inzaghi praised his players’ efforts.

“This season we didn’t hide our goal,” he said. “We said our goal was to be the second star. We knew that four, five or six other candidates wanted the same thing, but we wanted it so badly. We were the strongest in Italy.”

Asked if the Champions League was the club’s main target next season, he added: “We know what it means to play a lot of games. We know it won’t be easy, but we will prepare as best we can.”
