Owners Łukasz and Iwona shared an update to customers, explaining that they would determine which exact day they will close next week but hope to stay open until the end of the month.

They said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of our restaurant, Polka Polish Cuisine.

“The exact date of our final day will be determined next week after a conversation with the landlord, but we anticipate remaining open for about two more weeks, until the end of this month.”

The couple explained that despite having a “jam-packed” restaurant most weekends, the revenue made during the rest of the week did not bring the turnover they were hoping for.

They continued: “Unfortunately, our revenue has struggled to cover the restaurant’s expenses.

“While our weekends were often jam-packed, the rest of the week did not bring the consistent turnover we had hoped for.

“We are fully aware that our location posed challenges, and with limited capital for marketing and not enough initial investment, we faced significant difficulties from the start.”

The couple are remaining “hopeful” for the future and aim to reopen, at some point, in a new location.

They said: “We have made the difficult decision to close our doors at Liosban for the well-being of ourselves and our family.

“However, we remain hopeful that in the future, we will regain the strength and resources to reopen in a new location.

“Ireland truly deserves to experience great Polish cuisine, and we hope to bring it back one day.

“Sometimes, it’s necessary to take one step back to take two steps forward, and we are confident this is part of our journey.”

The pair told how they feel “honoured” that, as the first Polish restaurant in Ireland, they were recognised by food critics and featured among the best restaurants in Connacht.

They extended their “deepest thanks” to customers who have made a stop at the restaurant and “believed in our vision” since their opening in November 2022.

This is not the end, I know that and I look forward to the next chapter. For now, look after yourselves and your family.”
