And, what’s even better is Nita’s choice of a sweet and simple attire on wedding day, despite getting married into an affluent family.
Mukesh Ambani was introduced to Nita Dalal, who came from a middle-class background, by his mother, Kokilaben Ambani. Kokilaben noticed Nita at an event and decided she would be the perfect match for her son.
And, in 1985, the duo were officially married!
Despite having a vast amount of wealth, the Ambani family is deeply rooted in tradition. Particularly when it comes to dressing for big events like weddings.
Nita Ambani chose a highly traditional ensemble , wearing a garment made of two sarees draped together. She wore a panetar saree, symbolizing respect for her maternal family, and added a gharchola to honour her husband’s family. This blend of two sarees is a significant Gujarati tradition.
The significance of Panetar and Gharchola
The panetar is a white or ivory silk saree with a red or maroon border, gifted by the bride’s family. The gharchola, a red and gold saree from the groom’s family, signifies the bride’s welcome into her new home. Both sarees feature intricate tie-and-dye bandhini work, adding to their cultural and aesthetic value.
Isha Ambani‘s traditional ode
Continuing the family tradition, Isha Ambani incorporated traditional elements into her wedding attire in December 2018. She wore an ivory lehenga by designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and added her mother’s 36-year-old wedding saree as a dupatta, honoring her Gujarati heritage.
