Baton Rouge police arrest accused drug dealer after traffic stop

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A traffic stop in Baton Rouge ended with the arrest of an alleged drug dealer.

On June 28, Baton Rouge Police Department patrol officers saw a Black sedan with illegal tint headed north on North Foster Drive. Officers conducted a routine traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from the vehicle.

The driver, who was later identified as Larry Paul, 29, of Baton Rouge, was asked to exit the vehicle. After exiting the vehicle, officers discovered a clear bag of suspected marijuana in the driver’s seat. Patrol officers searched Paul’s person and found two smaller bags of marijuana in his pocket. Paul was placed into handcuffs at that time.

The passenger, who was identified as Desmond Green, was asked to exit the vehicle. As Green complied with the orders, officers discovered a gun in plain sight in the passenger’s seat. Green was quickly placed into handcuffs, according to police.

Officers searched the vehicle and found two handguns and a large plastic bag hidden under the hood with 113 grams of marijuana. Paul claimed ownership of the marijuana and guns in the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

Paul was arrested and faces charges of illegal possession of stolen firearms, three counts of illegal carrying of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule II drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, window tint violation, three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and three counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery.
