Benefit concert at Arnolds Park will raise money for Spencer, IA flood victims

ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa (KTIV) – Local businesses and artists have joined together to put on a benefit concert to raise funds for flood victims in Spencer, Iowa.

A fun afternoon, for a good cause. Folks at Arnolds Park Amusement Park have counted their blessings after the recent storms and high water levels, and now want to lend a hand to those who have had it much worse.

“We want to be good neighbors. It’s neighbors helping neighbors, is what we are teaming this as. So, we had a few bands that reached out to us and said, hey if there is anything you guys are going to be doing we would love to be a part of it. And then our team got together and said we should really do something. So, on Sunday, July 28th, we are going to have a great benefit concert here at Preservation Plaza,” said Jon Pausley, CEO of Arnold’s Park Amusement Park.

For one of those bands, the cause hit extra close to home. We were able to catch up with headliner Casey Muessigmann, a Spencer native, when he returned to help clean out his childhood home.

“The first time I found out, my mom sent me a video of her and my dad knee deep in this driveway, about right here getting into his truck. And by the time they were able to pull out of the driveway, the water was already up to the top step there,” said Muessigmann.

What once was a feeling of helplessness, has now motivated Casey and fellow artists to give back the way they know best.

“We’ve got four different bands that are participating, you can come and go at any time, and we will have lots of opportunities out here to be able to give with cash, check, or even with our code digitally,” said Muessigmann.

In addition to the benefit concert, Arnolds Park Amusement Park Park is giving some lucky Spencer residents a free day at the park to let loose and make new family memories.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Spencer Chamber of Commerce Foundation. They will then be distributed to residents in need.
