In the early hours of Sunday, suspected Boko Haram terrorists targeted the 330kV transmission line connecting Damaturu and Maiduguri, just three weeks after its restoration by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to a report by security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, indicate that the attackers utilized improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around 2 a.m., causing widespread power outages in Maiduguri and nearby regions.

Makama criticized TCN for its decision to publicly announce the restoration of power on social media, labeling it “unprofessional” and “dangerously counterproductive.”

He cautioned that such disclosures could attract further attacks from terrorist groups.

Makama, who is known for his pointed critiques of security measures, noted Boko Haram’s history of targeting essential facilities in the area.

He expressed concerns about TCN’s communication strategy, suggesting that the company failed to apply lessons from previous incidents and lacks effective crisis management skills.
