Brazil Has The World’s Most Accessed Online Citizen Services Platform

Brazil hosts the world’s most accessed online citizen services platform, according to a government ranking compiled by the web analytics tool Similarweb.

Gov.br is utilized by more than 150 million Brazilians and provides access to over 4,200 digital services. The platform operates with over 2,000 integrated systems across approximately 500 servers, handling 4,000 accesses per second.

Launched in July 2019, the portal was created after the government realized that maintaining thousands of citizen services across various websites made the provision of public services expensive and difficult.

The Brazilian website is followed in the Similarweb ranking by Gov.uk, the public sector information website created by the UK government in 2011 to provide a single point of access to citizen services.

“[Similarweb’s list] demonstrates how much the Brazilian population has incorporated Gov.br into their daily lives, using it to simplify their routine,” said Rogério Mascarenhas, Secretary of Digital Government at the Ministry of Management and Public Service Innovation.

Since the launch of Gov.br, Brazil has made rapid progress in the provision of digital citizen services. Along with Argentina, Chile, and Costa Rica, the country was ranked as a fast mover in the 2022 edition of the United Nations E-Government Survey, a study produced every two years by the UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
