Caitlin Clark’s second test as a WNBA player will be a tough one.
The Fever rookie had a less-than-ideal first day on the job Tuesday, setting a record by spitting the ball out 10 times in Indiana University’s 92-71 loss to the Sun. She stumbled under the constant attacks of Connecticut standout Dijonai Carrington. Dijonai Carrington ran through screens and wreaked havoc on the Fever backcourt.
Clark shined, smashing Nylon with four triples, three of which came off his patented stepback. But it was a spotty performance, one that could slightly temper expectations for Clark’s rookie campaign.
If the Suns are a tough opponent, Liberty, who finished runner-up in last year’s WNBA Finals, could be a threat. Courtney Vandersloot, Bettina Rainey, Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Brianna Stewart form the most formidable unit you could ever dream of at W. And despite a closer-than-expected result against the Mystics, they’ll take a solid second place. He will be at the top of the league’s totem pole in 2024.
Mr. Clark has a job that is perfect for him. Considering her pedigree, that could be a good thing for the Hawkeyes icon.
