Counterfeit goods dealer caught again

KUALA LUMPUR: A repeat offender has landed himself in trouble again after a raid by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry led to the discovery of counterfeit goods.

The ministry’s Kuala Lumpur chief enforcement officer Nurul Syarina Md Anuar said an operation was conducted on Thursday at a business complex in Lorong Haji Taib after a two-week surveillance.

A shop and six storerooms were raided, leading to the seizure of 2,070 pairs of counterfeit branded slippers.

“Based on information, the slippers were obtained overseas. The business owner operated online and received stock from outside the Klang Valley.

“Checks showed the premises were been used for three years by the same owner,” she said in a statement.

Nurul Syarina said this was the second time the premises was raided by the ministry.

“The owner, in his 40s, has been arrested for further investigations,” she said.

Statistics from the ministry showed that eight people have been arrested this year for intellectual property offences under Ops Jeriji 5.0.

A total of 46,900 items worth about RM2mil were seized.
