Dale N. Merchant, 69, of Cape Vincent

CAPE VINCENT, New York (WWNY) – Our beloved father, Dale N. Merchant, age 69 of Cape Vincent, New York, passed away early morning of December 3, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Dale was born May 21, 1954 in Watertown, New York to the late Alan Merchant, and Barbara Allen.

Dale graduated in 1972 from Cape Vincent high school, and after he ventured into the workforce to eventually take over and expand his fathers general contracting business which he did until he retired in 2019. He married Wanda O’Brien on March 17, 1979. The marriage ended in divorce.

He was a man of many talents. He was a published poet, an artist, a realtor, an avid hunter and most importantly a doting father. Dale enjoyed time alone, taking drives, working hard and spending time with friends and family.

Dale is survived by his daughter Melissa (Lee) Combs of Watertown NY, his son Schuyler Merchant of Lexington, South Carolina, three grandchildren, Rylee, Breck and Dylan Combs of Watertown, his mother, Barbara Constance of Chaumont, his brothers Terry (Kathy) Merchant of Cape Vincent and Brian (Kelly) Merchant of Watertown along with several nieces and nephews and several Aunts and Uncles.

He was predeceased by his father Alan Merchant, of Cape Vincent NY.

Calling Hours will be held at Cleveland Funeral Home of Cape Vincent Friday, December 8th from 11am to 1pm with funeral following. A celebration of life will be held at the Cape Vincent legion, burial will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 11 AM at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Vincent, NY. Donations may be made in Dale’s name to Hospice of Jefferson County.
