East Albany sees new businesses

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – East Albany is continuing to grow even after recently losing its’ Roses store to West Albany.

The Cutology Barber Salon and Spa franchise has finally made its way to East Albany, and the owner, Carlos Davis, says this business is meant to serve the community in more ways than one.

“We put this location here to better benefit the community. We’re feeding, we’re clothing. It’s not just a barber salon, it’s really a movement,” Davis said.

Even with this new business coming to East Albany, Commissioner John Howard believes it’s up to the community to invest in sustaining local businesses.

” I like to instill in the citizens of East Albany, especially at mom-and-pop stores, to patronize those stores. When you buy locally 70 percent of the tax money stays in Albany and Dougherty County,” Howard said.

One former East Albany resident believes with Cutology being in East Albany, it could be a catalyst for more economic growth and citizen retention.

“They need additional businesses other than the barbershop and the gas station, they need more restaurants, they need more retail space as well,” Commissioner Howard said.

Commissioner Howard also announced that more businesses are coming to East Albany but it’s up to the community to make sure they stay…

” There’s going to be a Zaxby’s going to come to the east side. We have to patronize these businesses. Coming by and looking in the window will not get it. They have to pay employees, rent, make telephone calls. Just come in and encourage people to come to East Albany,” Howard stated.

This Saturday at 11 am, Cutology is hosting a free event for all of the community to enjoy at their East Albany location.
