This time around, Lawrence finds himself in serious trouble after arriving in Ruvinheigen. Upon visiting the Rowen Trading Guild, he reunites with Jacob Tarantino, whom he reveres as a father figure. Lawrence’s request for a proof-of-membership certificate turns tense when Jacob darkens upon learning about Lawrence’s destination for selling goods. Meanwhile, Norah seeks grazing land for her sheep from a priest at the church, further complicating the situation.

At the Lemerio Company, Lawrence is devastated to learn that the armor market has crashed, leaving him with worthless goods and a significant debt. The Latparron Company, having sold his loan to Lemerio, exacerbates his plight. Desperately seeking help, Lawrence faces rejection from merchants left and right who disapprove of his unmarried relationship with Holo. In his frustration, he ends up making a really bad choice that emphasizes his deteriorating emotional state…

Overall, this episode effectively conveys Lawrence’s desperation and the precariousness of his situation. The tone does a good job of slowly shifting from the light-hearted banter between Holo and Lawrence to a tense, almost bleak atmosphere as Lawrence’s financial and emotional troubles deepen. The animation and music could have better captured the gravity of Lawrence’s downfall, but the story’s stakes remain clear and engaging. Lawrence’s journey is a harsh reminder of the risks inherent in the merchant’s life and the societal barriers that can make or break deals. Despite the heavy themes, it sold the drama and left me hopeful for a resolution in Lawrence’s favor.
