Treasury Secretary Paul Chan began a 10-day visit to France and the United States on Wednesday, on a joint trip with delegations from the Macau and Guangdong provincial governments.

While in the French capital Paris, the group will attend the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and European (France) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference to promote business opportunities and Hong Kong’s role in the Bay Area. “Super connector” and “super added value”.

The Finance Minister will also meet with local political and business circles to explore opportunities for further cooperation between Hong Kong and France.

The group will then fly to California, visit San Francisco and Berkeley, and attend a high-level event on Bay-to-Bay dialogue and climate next week.

Separately, Chan will attend a business luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in California’s Bay Area to attract US companies to Hong Kong, particularly in the innovation and technology sectors.

Those taking part in the visit will include Special Region Commerce Minister Algernon Yau, Transport Secretary Lam Zheng Yue-ke, Financial Services and Finance Undersecretary Joseph Chan, and Greater Bay Area Development Commissioner Maisie Chan.

Chan is due to return to the city on June 1st.

Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Wong will serve as acting Treasury Secretary in Chan’s absence.
