First-ever Reelin’ Rockin’ and Rollin’ Car Show raises money to restore almost 100 year old Ohio theater

BARNESVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — Hundreds of people came out today in one local community to support an organization that is working on a large restoration project.

The State Theatre and the Village of Barnesville hosted their first-ever Reelin’ Rockin’ and Rollin’ cruise-in car show today.

The event featured several new and antique cars, along with kids’ activities, raffles, and food trucks.

The first annual State Theatre Hot Dog eating contest was also a part of the fun-filled day with contestants from Barnesville Schools, Barnesville Rotary Club, and the Kiwanis Club.

All the proceeds made at the event went towards restoring the State Theatre in Barnesville, which was built in 1925.

Barnesville used to have four theaters back then, but obviously over the years things have changed. But this group is a large group and very committed to the effort and the whole goal is that we’re able to bring shows, activities, an event center here right in our town to where we’re able to make a big impact on the community for people to just get together nights, weekends and things like that.”

Jake Hershberger, Mayor of Barnesville, Ohio

Towards the end of the event, three choice awards were handed out to the car cruise participants with the coolest and most attractive car.
