Funding boost to propel Logan students toward employment

Senior school students in Logan will soon have enhanced opportunities to transition from education to employment, thanks to a new initiative aimed at boosting their job readiness skills.

The Logan Education into Employment Project (LEEP) will roll out a series of “work readiness” activities over the next 18 months to equip young job seekers with critical skills.

The project, coordinated by the Logan Education into Employment Round Table (LEERT), brings together representatives from the local council, Queensland and Australian governments, TAFE Queensland, Griffith University, Thrive Logan, the home-schooling community, and the ENABLE coalition of schools.

These stakeholders will work collaboratively to help students plan their employment pathways and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy.

The initiative is supported by a $95,000 grant from the School to Work Transitions program, part of the Queensland Government’s “Good People. Good Jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032.”

This funding aims to assist students in transitioning from school to further education, training, or employment.

Economic Development Chair Councillor Miriam Stemp highlighted the importance of the project in fostering youth employment.

“We know that supporting and increasing youth employment in our city is about working together and creating connections,” Cr Stemp said.

“Council is a very proud contributor to the LEERT, which draws on the expertise of government and our local education sector to help local students navigate their way through employment barriers.”

The LEEP project will also support existing LEERT events like the Bridge to Business, which connects job-ready school leavers with employers actively seeking staff.

Councillor Stemp expressed enthusiasm for the potential impact of the new programs.

“As career opportunities continue to evolve, we’re excited to see where new employment programs can take young people,” she said.
