Golfers participate in tournament to raise money for Huntington’s disease

LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) – Nearly 150 golfers met Saturday morning at Arrowhead Golf Club to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s Rocky Mountain Chapter.

The tournament was the 8th Annual Fairways for Hope Charity Golf Tournament. The goal of the tournament is to fund research and help families directly impacted by Huntington’s disease.

According to a press release sent out by the organization, “This golf event represents a local opportunity for members of the HD community to come together with friends, family members, neighbors and the community at large to raise necessary awareness and funds to support HDSA.”

All proceeds of the tournament will support the organization and its mission, the release said.

Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic condition that affects the nerve cells of the brain. It is often described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease all at once.

According to the organization, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at risk of inheriting the disease.

Right now there are no cures for Huntington’s disease.

The organization has more information on the tournament and a way to sign up for next year on its website.
