Google Launches Second Edition of Google News Initiative Indian Languages Programme

Google has announced the launch of the second edition of the Google News Initiative (GNI) Indian Languages Programme (ILP), aimed at supporting news publishers in India. Following the success of the inaugural edition last year, which saw participation from over 300 news publishers across nine Indian languages, the tech giant is partnering with Mediology, its technology partner, to deliver ILP’s next iteration.

The ILP 2.0 will focus on providing next-generation tools for newsrooms working with Indic languages. It will be delivered in nine languages, including English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi. This year’s programme will follow a structured format, encompassing scaled inspiration series plus virtual workshops, 1:1 diagnosis & workshop, and implementation.

The scaled inspiration series plus virtual workshops will feature eight sessions with guest speakers, success stories, and product-focused training. Meanwhile, the 1:1 diagnosis & workshop will offer personalized assessment and guidance for all selected news publishers. Additionally, the implementation phase will provide dedicated consultations and technical support for a subset of news publishers.
