Google News down following coverage of Donald Trump’s conviction

Google News, the widely used news service, experienced an outage on Friday morning, right after one of the most significant events in US history – Donald Trump’s conviction.

A multitude of users reported issues with the service on Down Detector, a website traffic monitoring site.

This comes as less than an hour after being found guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money case, Donald Trump’s fundraising platform buckled under “heavy traffic.”

Visitors were greeted with a “500: something went wrong” error message. The site assured that engineers had been alerted to the problem.

While it can’t be confirmed, it seems likely that this could have happened due to the website being inundated with traffic from people keen on donating.

This verdict marks a historic moment as Trump becomes the first criminally convicted president in US history, making the Republican candidate for this year’s election a felon.
