Great Deal: Pixel 8a comes with $100 gift card, but Galaxy A35, S23 FE, OnePlus 12R prices drop

But don’t rush to buy a Pixel just yet. The Samsung Galaxy A35 is $40 cheaper than last week, and even cheaper than the Pixel 8a, even without gift cards. The Pixel offers longer software support (7 years vs. 4 OS updates and 5 years of patches for the Galaxy).

The Galaxy A35 has a larger display at 6.6 inches and 6.1 inches, and whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on you. The bigger battery (5,000mAh vs. 4,492mAh) is definitely a good thing, but there’s no wireless charging (the Pixel has 7.5W). Note that the Galaxy has a microSD slot.

If you have $500 to spend, why not buy the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE? It’s still the same price last week, which means the 8/128GB model will cost $500 and the 8/256GB model will cost $560. Coincidentally, the same memory options cost the same as the Pixel, but don’t include gift cards. Therefore, S23 FE will be more expensive.

Tensor G3 doesn’t have a great reputation, but it’s actually better than Samsung’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. You get an 8MP 3x telephoto camera with Galaxy and in-sensor zoom on Pixel and Samsung DeX. Android 15 may offer a desktop environment, but it’s not as mature as DeX. The S23 FE is on the same update schedule as the A35, but since it’s already a year old, the Pixel has an even bigger advantage.

OnePlus 12R is $70 cheaper than last week. There’s only one memory option, but 16GB of RAM confuses both Samsung and Google. Storage is 256GB and cannot be expanded. The 12R features Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (leaving Tensor G3 behind) and an LTPO display, which other phones don’t have. The water resistance rating is poor at IP64, but that doesn’t really matter. The battery is larger than other batteries at 5,500mAh, and although it only has wired charging, it charges at 80W.
