With the Job Match feature, Job Bank’s system will match an employer’s job advertisement with profiles in the system that match the job description in the advertisement. These candidates are identified (and the hiring process is run) and the employer can choose whether or not to consider them for the position. Note that the Job Match feature considers all individuals in the Job Bank system, not just those in the Express Entry pool.

When an employer decides (after meeting all prerequisites) that they want to offer a job to a foreign national in the Express Entry pool, they must first Labor market impact assessment (LMIA). The LMIA is a government assessment to determine how hiring foreign nationals impacts Canada’s labor market. This document must return a positive or neutral result to support employment of the foreign national by a Canadian employer. Also, there are certain conditions. No LMIA required.

If you are a new participant in the Express Entry pool and wish to take advantage of the Job Bank’s “Job Match” feature, you must:

  • Have a valid Express Entry profile that includes a profile number and applicant verification code*. and
  • Create a Job Match account (this is separate from your Job Bank account, but the services are grouped together). The Job Match platform prompts users to enter Express Her entry information when creating a profile.

*Job applicant verification code is a code provided by IRCC that allows eligible profiles to start searching for jobs in Canada. These are generated when a valid profile (along with profile number) is submitted to the Express Entry pool.
