Howard College San Angelo launches tradesman plumber training program

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Howard College San Angelo has announced that it has launched a new tradesman plumber training program slated to begin in August.

According to the college, the program is designed “to meet the growing demand for skilled plumbing professionals and to provide students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel in the plumbing industry.”

The program consists of five courses that will be taken over two semesters, during which students will take part in a curriculum developed to “to cover all essential aspects of plumbing.” These courses will be taught by a local master plumber.

Once a student has finished the program, they will be qualified to take the tradesman plumber-limited certification exam.

“This certification is a key credential that can significantly enhance career opportunities and professional development in the plumbing field,” Howard College said. “Without this series of courses, it would take 4,000 working hours or approximately two years to qualify to take the certification exam.”

The program is officially scheduled to begin on Aug. 19, after which classes will be regularly held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. The program is eligible for the Pell Grant and student loans for students who qualify, and limited scholarships may be available.

“We are thrilled to offer this new opportunity for our students,” Provost Pam Callan said. “The tradesman plumber program is an excellent addition to our vocational training offerings, and it reflects our commitment to providing education that meets the needs of our community and local business and industries.”

As per Howard College, the program was made possible by the $400,000 Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grant offered to the institution in July 2023. The funds provided by the grant were used in the construction of the Electrical and Plumbing Training Facility, a new building at the San Angelo campus that had ground broken for it in September 2023.

Enrollment has been opened for the plumber program. Those interested are encouraged to apply early due to limited space.
