An Illinois man appeared in court Wednesday facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his wife’s death.

On September 5, the Warrenville Police Department arrived at the home of Steven Kramer, 39, and his wife, Jamie Neumann, 47, around 11 a.m., according to Fox News Digital. They had received a call regarding a cardiac arrest and death, police said.

Kramer met the officer at the door and informed her that his wife was upstairs. Neumann was found face up on the floor at the foot of the couple’s bed.

According to a DuPage County news release, “the victim had blood coming from her mouth, apparent trauma to her face, and what appeared to be brain matter on her upper chest.”

The autopsy determined that Neumann was shot six times, with wounds to her left thigh, three to her chest, one to her right forearm, and one between her left eye and nose.

An investigation determined that Kramer and Neumann had a verbal argument, which escalated into violence, resulting in Kramer shooting Neumann multiple times.

The Chicago Daily Herald reported that at the time of the incident, their 4-year-old daughter was in another room.

“I offer my sincerest condolences to Jaime’s family and friends as they grieve their loss, particularly her children, who are now forced to live a life without the love and support only a mother can provide,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. ”

“While nothing can be done to bring Jaime back to those who loved her, thanks to the outstanding work of the Warrenville Police Department, we will be able to bring a strong prosecution against the man who allegedly took her life.”

Kramer was arrested after turning himself in to the Warrenville Police Department, according to Fox News.

“Jaime was loved by everyone who knew her, and leaving her girls behind is not something she would have ever chosen. Sadly, her life was cut short due to domestic violence, leaving all of her daughters parentless,” a group of “dedicated mothers” wrote on a GoFundMe page for Neumann’s daughters, adding,

“Jaime was not only a great mother and a wonderful friend but also a genuinely good person who touched the lives of many.”

Kramer will remain in custody while awaiting his October 7 arraignment.
