JJ Watt is open to asking DeMeco Ryans to return to the NFL if the Texans really need him

Business

JJ Watt knows the score. The vast majority of young NFL legends are probably unlikely to come out of retirement (Aaron Donald, cough, cough), Watt certainly fits the needs of those who: did it Wear the suit again in appropriate situations.

Introducing Demeco Ryans Watt’s old teammate and one of his closest friends in the NFL.when he coaches Rising Houston Texans.

At a charity softball game on Saturday, Watt revealed that he previously told Ryans that if his head coach called him in a truly desperate situation, he would return to the NFL. However, the former three-time Defensive Player of the Year insists the offer will only last for one more year as it is extremely difficult to stay in good enough shape to play in the NFL. did.

I asked JJ Watt how he resists the temptation to return to football, especially given the rise of the Texans. His answer was interesting.

Here’s what Watt had to say about his full return to play with the Texans:

“I had a great 12 years in this league, and I’m so grateful to be able to retire healthy and playing well,” Watt said. “I told Demeco.” [Ryans] Last year, I said, “Don’t call unless you absolutely have to, but if you do; i’m there. ” And he [Ryans] I know not to make phone calls unless absolutely necessary. This year is the last time I will tell him this. Because I’m not going to continue training like I used to. But he knows that if he really needs it, I’ll be there for him. I don’t expect that to happen. They have a very good group. ”

Given everything he’s been through, the chances of the 35-year-old Watt returning to the league are still very slim. In fact, it seems like his friend is only really considering it now that Watt is currently coaching the team where he had most of his NFL accomplishments. Well, that and the Texans seem to be the favorites for the Super Bowl, but unfortunately Watt never won one in his career.

Imagine Watt coming off the edge of a Ryans-led Texans defense and CJ Stroud hitting a dime on offense. At least that’s a pretty cool idea.
