IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of the first Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants property in Italy. This initiative further strengthens IHG’s portfolio of luxury and lifestyle products. The facility is scheduled to open in late 2025 under a management agreement with partner Società Turistica Alberghiera Taorminese.
The addition of the Kimpton hotel in Sicily marks IHG Hotels & Resorts’ 30th property in Italy and joins Kimpton’s portfolio of eight hotels in the UK and continental Europe.
The decision to bring Kimpton to Sicily underscores IHG’s strategic focus on key markets. It follows a number of luxury and lifestyle property openings and deals in 2023, including the debut of Six Senses in Rome and the introduction of Hotel Indigo and InterContinental properties in several Italian cities. , the addition of Kimpton further strengthens his IHG presence in Italy.
Located in Taormina, a hilltop town on Sicily’s east coast, the new Kimpton hotel combines local tradition with Kimpton’s signature style. Featuring 59 charming rooms, the hotel offers wellness services including a restaurant, terrace bar, outdoor Mediterranean garden, 20-metre swimming pool and tennis court.
Founded in 1981 by hotelier Bill Kimpton, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants pioneered the boutique hotel and restaurant concept. Kimpton, which was acquired by IHG in 2018, is expanding globally with properties in Europe and abroad, including Barcelona, Paris and London.
With expansion plans underway, Kimpton is expected to have more than 100 hotels in 20 countries around the world by 2025.
