Local law enforcement raises money for Special Olympics Massachusetts

“I like special Olympics, you be yourself and be confident”, says April Lucia, a swimmer with Special Olympics Massachusetts.

Local law enforcement is serving up the goods at ninety nine in West Springfield.
They were volunteering for a cause to raise money for thousands of athletes with the Special Olympics Massachusetts.

“Everybody should have the opportunity to be involved and do things and unfortunately you have some people who cant afford it so by doing this were providing it for them”, says Deputy Cheri Burton, residential supervisor & correctional officer with Hampden County Sheriff’s Office.

“A great experience for us we love volunteering our time between 100 and 200 people show up throughout the whole night, not all at once but throughout the whole night”, says Officer Rodolfo Espinosa, with the Springfield Police Department.

Those wearing tip-a-cop shirts were all part of the volunteer staff hosting and serving the community. Annually, Special Olympics Massachusetts helps more than 16-thousand athletes compete, and encourages them to develop self confidence.. independence and a life-long purpose.
