DAKAR – The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) military has repelled a coup attempt by Congolese and foreign fighters, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) military spokesperson said in a televised address on Sunday morning.
“The coup attempt was crushed by the national defense and security forces. Foreigners and Congolese nationals were involved in this attempt. These foreigners and Congolese nationals, including their leaders, were suspended,” Silvan said. Spokesperson Ekenge said.
The spokesperson did not say whether this meant they had been captured or killed.
Earlier, two security guards and one assailant were killed in an attack on the nearby home of Vital Kamerhe, a lawmaker who is expected to be nominated for speaker, Kamerhe’s spokesperson and the Japanese ambassador said. I mentioned it in my post to X.
The U.S. Embassy issued a red alert on Sunday warning of “continued activity by Democratic Republic of Congo security personnel” and reports of gunfire in the area.
