As Anglo American shareholders weigh the pros and cons of a takeover offer and an internally-led restructuring, one thing is already certain: the South African platinum business will be a big beneficiary.

BHP, which made a unilateral takeover offer to Anglo, has no desire to incorporate platinum group metals into its portfolio. For Anglo, plans to exit the platinum sector are no surprise.
