Ng strengthens Canada-Texas economic ties with visit to Austin | Mirage News

Canada and the United States have one of the closest and most important trading relationships in the world, built on long-standing shared values ​​and deeply integrated supply chains that create opportunity for businesses and workers on both sides of the border. Texas plays a critical role in this relationship.

Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, and the Honorable Kirsten Hillman, Canadian Ambassador to the United States, met with government and industry representatives in Austin today. The visit is part of Team Canada’s U.S. collaboration strategy, which is focused on advancing Canadian interests in and with the United States, one of Canada’s closest allies.

During their meeting with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Minister Ng and Ambassador Hillman highlighted Canada’s significant business and investment presence in the state and also discussed opportunities for strengthening collaboration.

The Minister and Ambassador met with representatives from Canadian provinces and Canadian-owned companies operating in Texas to hear their views on Canada-U.S. commercial relations, particularly between Canada and Texas.

Minister Ng spoke and led a discussion at a luncheon hosted by the Texas Business Association, the largest state chamber of commerce in the United States. The Minister highlighted Canada’s strong technology and manufacturing sectors and its strong integration into the U.S. and Mexican supply chains. Minister Ng also heard from leaders of Texas growth industries, including technology manufacturing, space technology and semiconductor manufacturing, which have significant trade ties with Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

At a roundtable on supply chain resilience hosted by the North American Competitive Strategy Network, the Minister heard from trucking and infrastructure industry representatives on supply chain logistics in the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) trade corridor. Minister Ng highlighted Canada’s commitment to CUSMA and North American economic growth and heard insights and local perspectives from participants.
