Police say dispute with girlfriend leads to Decatur drug dealer

Dozier

DECATUR — Police said they ended up busting a Decatur drug dealer after the suspect got into a violent confrontation with his live-in girlfriend over his alleged infidelity to her.

A sworn affidavit filed by the Decatur Police Department quotes the 21-year-old woman as saying she had been beaten by Jordan D. Dozier after she accused her boyfriend of four years of cheating.

She also said he had dragged her by her hair out of their home in the 1300 block of East Division Street, but not before she had managed to hit the emergency button on her phone to call 911 at 3:40 a.m. on the day of the attack, June 29.

Arriving police patrols had found the woman, who had multiple injuries to her face, neck and legs, after she flagged them down in the street near her house.

When they took her back to the residence, the affidavit said she told officers “All the (expletive) in there is his.” Police said they found more than 44 grams of crack cocaine lined up in baggies on the dining room table in the process of being “packaged ready for illegal street-level distribution.”

Officer Nicholas Stankiewicz, who signed the affidavit, said police also seized a digital scale, razor blade and other paraphernalia associated with drug preparation and dealing.

Dozier, 24, was described as having fled when police arrived but was arrested after a short foot chase and denied everything.

“Jordan denied ever possessing or knowing about any cocaine inside the residence,” Stankiewicz said. “Jordan stated he did not know who the cocaine belonged to.”

Dozier also said he was the victim of an attack by his girlfriend after she had accused him of seeing another woman. He claimed she had punched him repeatedly while they were in a car together and had bitten him on the face and right arm before he had bailed out of the vehicle and fled.

“Jordan said when he returned to the residence, he was apprehended by police,” said Stankiewicz. “Jordan claimed he did not live (at the house) but stated he was at the residence frequently.”

Dozier appeared in Macon County Circuit Court on July 24 and pleaded not guilty to charges of dealing in crack cocaine and two counts of domestic battery involving bodily harm and bodily contact. A check of his criminal history shows four previous convictions for domestic battery.

Judge Lindsey Shelton denied him pretrial release on the grounds he was too much of a flight risk. Dozier is due back in court for a pretrial hearing Sept. 10.

Eugene Haywood was just 15 when he sold his first crack rock on the streets of Peoria, Illinois.
