Ride with the Lights raises money and takes a ride for a cause

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – A fundraiser in Green Bay drew a big crowd this afternoon, with all the money going to help families in need this Christmas.

It started out at Vandervest Harley Davidson and gave people a chance to ride along with law enforcement officials in fancy vehicles on their way to the Iola Car Show.

The event, called Ride with the Lights, provides funding for gift cards given to police to hand out to needy families right before the holiday season. Participating departments came from across the state some traveling from as far as Minocqua and Columbia County.

“This is overwhelming to see this amount of support because it’s not only supporting the program, but it is supporting and showing that support for our officers,” said Katie Connell, the Director of the Police ‘Light of Christmas’ Program. “Which goes so far in helping them with their day-to-day duties. So this is amazing, and all the money raised is a bonus.”

Program organizers say they hope to raise more than $250,000 this year.
