Road, business closures due to rain

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The excessive rain and flooding in southeast South Dakota has caused multiple businesses, roads and events to close down for Friday, June 21.

Lincoln County

Harold Timmerman, the Lincoln County Emergency Manager, told KELOLAND News they are advising no travel until the rain stops.

“Until we get through the next round of rain we are advising no travel if you don’t have to,” Timmerman said.

Turner County

The Turner County Sheriff’s Office has issued a no travel advised.

“We’ve gotten up to 5 in of rain in the last 24 hours,” the sheriff’s office Facebook said. “Many roads in Turner County are flooded. Well crews are attempting to mark each and every place the water has crossed the road. It is going to take some time. If you must go somewhere, be prepared to detour, and do not cross flooded roads.”

US-18 between I-29 and Iowa State Line

According to South Dakota 511, the interstate is closed on I-29 between mile marker 59 and 64 due to flooding. Consider an alternate route until further notice. The I-29 between Iowa State Line and Sioux Falls has roads closed due to a construction project that has been flooded out.

I-90 near Brandon

South Dakota 511 says travelers can expect flooding westbound until further notice from 3 miles east to 1 mile east of US 81-Exit 364.

I-90 westbound in Minnesota

Minnesota 511 says I-90 between Luverne and Worthington is closed due to flooding. Choose alternative route.

Sioux Falls Parks and Streets

From the City of Sioux Falls: As of 10:20 a.m. 12th street between Sertoma and LaMesa avenues and Madison Street at LaMesa Avenue is closed.

The City also said that several parts of the bike trail are also closed due to flooding. Those closures will be marked at the trail barricades.

  • Rotary Park
  • Spencer Park
  • Tuthill Park
