  1. Yes, I want to complete every game I started. I don’t often play games that I hate or become disinterested in so much that I quit before I finish them. Also, I don’t like leaving things unfinished.

However, I haven’t finished “Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearer” yet…

  2. I would like to remind those who play World of Warcraft from time to time (Chris included) that the WoW Anniversary event includes three mounts. If you miss the event, these mounts may become unavailable or very expensive to purchase from black market auction houses. The Deathwing mount described in the podcast is very easy to obtain. His other two mounts are Wolf (for Horde) and Ram (for Alliance) when playing the special Alterac Valley PvP event.

PvP events were recently hotfixed, so the best way to earn mounts is by running various Alterac dailies over several days. The good news is that you can earn both mounts by completing a grind for her one character from either faction.

QotW: I feel like I need to finish a game I spend more than an hour or two playing. Looking up a game’s ending on YouTube doesn’t count.

Despite this, or perhaps because of this characteristic, I no longer play too many games within an hour or two. Usually I shelve them and try again later, sometimes years later.

I used to feel like I needed to complete the game 100%, but that’s no longer the case. Only certain games are worth 100% completion. It’s just those rare and special games that are so good that you don’t want to stop playing until there’s literally nothing to do.

Even when a game is good, it requires tedious tasks (e.g. collecting 900 Korok Seeds in Breath of the Wild) or hideous tasks (e.g. laying siege to an innocent city or puzzle quest in order to complete 100%). If you want something like “Find an Evil Artifact Weapon”, it’s not the game. Not worth it yet.

  3. Last year, I finally compiled a list of all the RPGs I’ve ever played. I’ve rolled the credits for a total of about 130 games, but I’ve yet to complete less than 10, most of which I plan to complete relatively soon. I have to roll credits before starting anything unless it’s not worth my time at all, which rarely happens.

  4. QOTW: I *actually* feel guilty when I can’t finish a game I start. When I was younger and had more free time at my disposal, I was a total 100% completionist. Now, it would be nice if I were lucky enough to actually get some credits. I currently have “more than a few” games on my bookshelf that are only partially finished or barely started, and I feel a lot of guilt for spending that money and not finishing them. I feel it.

  5. QotW: I tend to feel like I have to finish almost every game I start. I tend to try to do all the side quests, hidden item exploration, etc., but if I don’t have everything by the time the credits roll, I just stop doing it. Although I do post-game content if I’m really into the game or something that provides a valuable addition to the main story (e.g. Dragon Quest VIII on both counts) , you can forget about New Game .

Do games cause OCD, or has it always been there? Either way, the fact that you want to finish a game before starting the next one doesn’t help with backlog purposes…
