Saudi Arabia Sets Promising Example in Digital Economy, AI Sectors

Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, has highlighted the Kingdom’s remarkable growth in digital economy and Artificial Intelligence, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Digital Products Bridging Gaps

The Minister stated that Saudi Arabia represents a pioneering model in international cooperation to bridge the gaps within the social, economic, and AI sectors.

Themed “Toward a Common Digital Future,” the Summit of the Future session marked the participation of several leaders from the international community and the United Nations General Assembly.

Digital Products Serious Attempts

Alswaha shed light on the Kingdom’s serious attempts to present a significant study tackling the possible solutions to bridge a crucial digital gap caused by the lack of access to digital solutions for 2.6 billion people.

The Kingdom has also launched the virtual hospital as a pioneering model in healthcare system.

Interestingly, the hospital has conducted several specialized surgeries, including open-heart operations for patients in various countries around the world.

Moreover, the Minister expressed pride and enthusiasm over the noticeable growth in the Saudi digital economy.

Alswaha mentioned that the Kingdom had put forward the initiative to establish the Digital Cooperation Organization to bridge these gaps and serve over 800 million people.

Saudi Arabia also supported the concept of forming an economic bloc to provide digital platforms and a unified digital market to foster innovative and pioneering models in health, education, and business.

“To enhance joint efforts and exchange experience, the Kingdom is proud to announce its framework for AI governance in partnership with the UN, the establishment of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) in partnership with UNESCO, and the launch of the AI Readiness Framework in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union,” the minister said.

Digital Products Significant Recommendations

As a member in the AI Advisory Body, led by the UN secretary-general, Saudi Arabia seeks to bridge social, economic and AI gaps, shape the future of humanity and empower individuals.

Thus, the Kingdom presented seven recommendations, including the following suggestions:

  • Establishing an independent international scientific committee focused on AI
  • Launching a multi-government dialogue on AI governance
  • Creating a platform for sharing standards and experience related to AI
  • Building a global network to develop human capabilities

“As we celebrate today the launch of the Pact for the Future, we should recognize that we have only one option: a comprehensive AI that empowers all humanity and ensures that no one is left behind in keeping pace with the world,” Alswaha said.
