Scores of bandits killed as NAF foils attack on DSS facility in Niger

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on the Department of State Services (DSS) facilities in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

According to reports by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the operation was carried out following intelligence about a planned ambush by suspected terrorists targeting DSS assets in the region.

In response, the air force deployed its Super Tucano jets, launching airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of many of the assailants.

The bodies of at least 28 bandits were recovered, with more casualties reported across the area. Additionally, security forces seized several weapons and motorcycles used by the attackers during the raid.

Unfortunately, two DSS personnel lost their lives in a gunfight with the bandits, marking a somber note amidst the successful operation.

While the NAF has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, this marks another significant victory in the fight against insurgency in Niger State.

Earlier in May, NAF spokesperson Edward Gabkwet confirmed that airstrikes in Allawa village, Shiroro LGA, had also killed numerous terrorists, underscoring the region’s ongoing struggle with banditry and insecurity.

The swift response by the air force highlights the continued efforts by Nigerian security forces to curb terrorist activities in the area, although the loss of DSS operatives serves as a reminder of the challenges they face.
