Good news for all those planning or heading to Sikkim as the government has fixed taxi fares between Gangtok and the famous tourist destination of Nathu La in a strategic move to curb excessive tourist charges. The initiative, effective immediately, aims to ensure fair pricing and improve the overall experience of tourists.

According to an official order issued by Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, CS Rao, the round trip taxi fares for ordinary and luxury cars from Gangtok to Nathu La have been set at INR 6,500 and INR 7,000 respectively, inclusive of permit fee.

Overcharging tourists is a widespread problem in many travel destinations. As per the directions outlined in the official order, strict action will be taken against any individual or business entity found violating the prescribed rates. Violators can be penalised under various transport laws and regulations such as the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the CMV Rules, 1989 and the Sikkim Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991, enforced by the Ministry of Transport.
