Sisk confirms £300m win in Man City Stand

John Sisk & Son has confirmed that it is building the new North Stand at Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium.

The company said pre-construction work began on site in November 2023, adding: “The first phase of the steelworks is currently commencing at the North Stand.”

The new upper floor of the North Stand will add 7,900 seats. The company expects it to be completed by the 2025/26 football season.

In addition to the new stadium seating, a hotel, workspace areas and public spaces are also scheduled to be completed by late 2026.

Three of the hotel’s four concrete cores have already been poured, and four tower cranes are on site with another one planned, Sisk said.

“Internal works will begin within the stadium during the summer to ensure minimal disruption to supporters when the Premier League season resumes in August,” Sisk added.

Laing O’Rourke was in talks with Manchester City to make the plan a reality but pulled out in June 2023 after failing to agree a contract with the club.

Construction work on the building, originally known as the City of Manchester Stadium, began in 2000 in time for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Over the following years it was renovated to become the home ground of Manchester City Football Club.

Etihad Stadium currently has over 53,000 seats, making it the fifth largest capacity stadium in the Premier League.
